Sustainable development at LAPLACE: for collective, reasoned, and sustainable research

This resolution marks our commitment to actively participate in the joint effort to reduce the ecological footprint of public services, while pursuing our goals of high-quality research with a positive impact on society and the environment.

Resolution
In order to reduce the environmental impact of its research activities, in accordance with the Climate-Biodiversity Action Plan for Higher Education and Research in Support of Ecological Transition and in accordance with Opinion No. 2022-43 of the CNRS Ethics Committee, the LAPLACE laboratory undertakes to:

  • Establish a Sustainable Development Working Group (GT-DD) with a representative from each entity of the laboratory, ensuring diversity and facilitating the dissemination and acceptability of decisions, to define and supervise the laboratory’s sustainable development policy.
  • Provide the financial, human, and organizational resources to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by at least 2% per year until 2030, starting in 2019, in accordance with MESR guidelines.
  • Provide the financial, human, and organizational resources to reduce energy and natural resource consumption and limit waste production in accordance with the recommendations of the State’s Ecological Transformation Plan.
  • Implement the concrete actions proposed by the Sustainable Development Working Group and approved by the Laboratory Council to reduce the environmental impact of LAPLACE.
  • Actively participate in the Toulouse laboratories’ sustainable development network and the Labos 1point5 project, a community of laboratories in transition working to reduce the impact of scientific research activities on the environment, particularly on the climate.

The Sustainable Development Working Group will conduct its work according to a rigorous methodology:

  • It will draw inspiration, among other things, from actions already implemented in other laboratories and presented on the Transition 1point5 platform.
  • It will ensure that these actions are compatible with the guidelines of the various supervisory authorities.
  • It will rigorously assess the impact of these actions on the laboratory’s environmental footprint.
  • It will disseminate the content of its work in order to share it with all members of the laboratory.
  • It will submit these actions to the Laboratory Council for approval.
  • It will support laboratory members in implementing the actions and will monitor and evaluate their impact.
