The research group LM works on two axes : the production and use of light.
Axis 1 : Production of Light

Theme 1 : Organic light emitting components (OLEDs and OFETs) and associated systems
The production of light by organic components is a major focus of the LM Group’s work. Our research group has all necessary equipment for the realization of the organic components and their characterization. The group is working on the following subjects :
• OLEDs based on organometallic platinum
• OLEDs on flexible media
• Organic luminescent FETs
• Studies of the interactions between OLEDs and their power supplies
Our objectives in this area are :
• Master the realization of "plastic" light sources on different types of support using innovative molecules synthesized in collaboration with chemists in order to obtain a wide range of colors including the bench. In the longer term, we want to be able to use molecules derived from green chemistry.
• Develop new diagnostics based on Raman, Near-Field Scanning Optical microscopy, AFM / KFM techniques to study phenomena at interfaces in organic semiconductors.

Theme 2 : Systems that produce Light based on Solid Sources of Light (SSL)
The LM group is clearly positioned in the field of qualification and optimization of light emitting diode (LED) lighting systems, we do not work on the semiconductor itself. Topics of our work in the field include :
• Study of the aging of LEDs and analysis of the causes of failures
• Study of the causes of aging of organic components (OLEDs)
• Metrology applied to LED lamps
Our objectives in this area are :
• Understand the physical causes of aging of Solid Sources of Light and set up methodologies allowing the accelerated aging of these components and the detection of signatures related to the phenomena of aging.
• Consolidate and increase our metrological capabilities in the field of light sources integrating SSLs.

Theme 3 : Innovative systems for the production of light
The creation of new sources of white light has been a new challenge for several years. The LM Group is exploring new processes for the production of light. As an example, we cite 2 projects :
• Dark discharge lamps
• The use of laser diodes coupled with phosphors
Our current objective in this area is :
• Control the production of white light by systems by a blue or violet laser diode coupled to a yellow phosphor.
• Explore the possibility of using electroluminescence for the creation of colored light sources in extreme environments

Axis 2 : Use of light

Theme 1 : Lighting and Sustainable Development
The optimization of lighting systems is a major challenge for the years to come. This optimization can only be done by considering the entire system including its uses and the interactions with its end user. This research theme is divided into several concrete projects. :
• Environmental impact and life cycle analysis of lighting systems
• Impact of lighting on human health
Our current objectives in this area are
• Create lifecycle analysis tools adapted to different lighting applications (tunnels, cities, etc.)
• Develop models of impact of artificial light on human health and visual comfort.

Theme 2 : Use of new light source technologies for lighting and non-lighting applications
The LM Group is currently working on two topics :
• Study and optimization of a self-adaptive urban lighting system : The challenge is to develop an intelligent lighting system that adapts to the constraints imposed by its use and its users and that impacts as little as possible the environment (Less greenhouse gas emissions, less light pollution, less toxic materials, less curative and predictive maintenance). We speak well of an "intelligent" and "anthropo-centric" street lighting system.
• Study of lighting systems for plant growth, especially micro-algae (Spirulina Plantesis).
Our current objective in this area is :
• To master the process of optimization of a system whose application is considered as one of its "components". In the longer term our ambition is to develop flexible optimization models that can be adapted to different classes of application.
